Elon Musk Announces New Venture: X to Launch Online Video Streaming Service

In October 2022, Elon Musk made headlines when he acquired Twitter and renamed it X. Since then, the renowned founder has been experimenting with various ideas in hopes of achieving success. And now, he is taking inspiration from YouTube and entering the world of online video streaming. According to reports from SamMobile, Musk recently announced the launch of this new service with a tweet from the DogeDesigner’s Twitter account.

X to Bring Long-Form Videos to Smart TVs

Musk revealed that the platform will have a separate application for Samsung and Amazon’s Fire TV, allowing users to enjoy their favorite X videos on a larger screen. This move marks X’s shift to becoming a “video-first” platform, a sign of its potential to move beyond the traditional feed-based content.

Musk also stated that 8 out of 10 visits to X are for streaming videos, showing the platform’s popularity among its users.

Positive Growth for X Amidst Negative Announcements

While X has faced its fair share of challenges, including recent negative announcements, Edison Research reported a 30% increase in X’s users in 2024 compared to the previous year. As X continues to strive for improvement and maintain its popularity, the platform has been focusing on supporting its creators and addressing the decreasing number of advertising opportunities.

In February, X announced the release of new tools that allow advertisers to run ads on curated lists of premium content creators. This also includes the option for pre-roll ads for longer videos, which will be available for streaming on Samsung and Fire TVs.
